Trump confirms US-Iran discussions to happen soon
Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, mentioned that the meeting is expected to occur "in the next week or so."
When asked about the possibility of ordering another strike on Iran, Trump responded, "I hope we're not going to have to do that. I can't imagine wanting to do that. I can't imagine them wanting to do that. They want to meet...they want to work something out."
These developments follow a series of US military actions against Iran’s nuclear sites, including B-2 bombers dropping powerful bunker-buster bombs on Fordo and Natanz, and Tomahawk cruise missile strikes on Isfahan in late June. A planned sixth round of US-Iran talks for mid-June was interrupted by Israeli airstrikes on June 13.
The recent conflict between Israel and Iran lasted 12 days before a US-brokered ceasefire took effect on June 24.
